“Did you see it? The thorns from my hand? That is my Stand! It can reveal faraway visions and place them on film.”

— Joseph introducing his Stand to Jotaro

Hermit Purple is the Stand of Joseph Joestar featured in Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable.

It takes the form of purple vines that wrap around Joseph. They are able to take spirit photos, essentially being able to show him whatever he wants through cameras. It also conducts Hamon.

Physical Appearance[]

Hermit Purple manifests itself as purple vines that wrap around Joseph's hand, arms, and most of his body.

JJL Chapter 110

A Stand similar to Hermit Purple appears in the eighth part, JoJolion, as the Stand of an alternate version of Joseph Joestar. This Stand goes unnamed in Part 8, but it has a similar appearance to Hermit Purple, however this one has a humanoid face.

Powers and Abilities[]

Clairvoyance[]

  • Divination - Hermit Purple's main ability is to divine information. By using any object or material in conjunction with Hermit Purple, Joseph Joestar can display any information he wishes to see. To date, he has used Hermit Purple to:
    • Produce psychic photographs by destroying a camera. Once broken, the camera produces a photograph which reveals the information as it is in that moment of time, such as an image of a person in their current situation.
    • Produce live psychic videos on a television. It can either display multiple seemingly random TV channels in rapid succession to formulate a coherent sentence, or the television can show a place, even the most improbable ones such as the interior of Joseph's brain.
    • Analyze machinery to see if it has been tampered with in some way, as he did with Terence T. D'Arby's video game cartridges and console.
    • Draw a map in dust on an unpaved road, with and 'X' marking the location of a desired item.

Notes[]

  • Hermit Purple is known as the 'Hamon User's Stand,' since DIO is able to use a variant of Hermit Purple (known as The Passion) due to him being in Jonathan's body.
    • This is also because Araki commented that if another Stand User had met Joseph or Jonathan, they would appear to them with the purple vines surrounding them.
  • Hermit Purple can be seen foreshadowed in the Part 2 opening song "Bloody Stream" as purple vine silhouettes can be seen around Joseph near the beginning.
  • This Stand is called by DIO in Part 3 the "weakest Stand," although this may have been said as a form of intimidation as in the flashbacks in Part 6 he refers to the Stand Survivor as the weakest.
