“Gimme a break...”

— Jolyne's catchphrase

Jolyne Cujoh is the protagonist of Stone Ocean. She is the sixth protagonist in the series, and the only female one. She is also the fifth to be referred to as JoJo.

She is the daughter of Jotaro Kujo, and in 2011, is framed for murder and is sentenced to jail. She is attempted to be rescued by her father, but the two of them are ambushed by Enrico Pucci, one of DIO's former associates, and Jotaro is sent into a coma-like state. Jolyne joins together with Ermes Costello, Emporio Alnino, Weather Report, Narciso Anasui, and Foo Fighters in order to save Jotaro and defeat Pucci. She eventually saves her father, and he joins her in the final battle against Pucci, where the lot of them are murdered by his Stand, Made in Heaven.

After the universe is rebooted, Jolyne is reincarnated as Irene, who lives in a world free of Pucci's influence.

Jolyne wields the Stand Stone Free, which allows her to unravel her body into string.

Physical Appearance[]

Jolyne is a tall slim and fit young woman. She has green hair with yellow highlights that she wears in a little ponytail with two buns. She wears a loose-fitting belly shirt that is dark blue and has what looks like a string design all over it. In the center of her outfit is a heart with a butterfly in the center of it, and on her left arm she has a butterfly tattoo.

Design Variants[]

In the non-canon one-shot Jolyne, Fly High With Gucci, Jolyne appears in her dream wearing clothing made for Araki's Gucci collab. She is depicted with green and yellow hair with a white dress with red flowers on it.

In the flashback during The Visitor, Part 1, Jolyne as a 14-year-old wears an orange tank top with a large pink butterfly on her right shoulder. Over her left eye is a removable tattoo of a star, and she wears camo pants.

In Birth of the "Green", Jolyne appears as a young girl in a photo portrait among a photo of both her parents.

In the episode Stone Ocean, she wears a similar top to what she normally wears but instead of a string pattern has a pattern of rings sewn into the fabric. Her dress is blue and green and crosshatched.

Her first main outfit of the part is similar to her usual one but instead of her top being connected to longer pants, she wears a short skirt and jeggings.

In the episode titled Stone Free, Jolyne is shrunk to the size of a mouse by effect of Gwess' Stand Goo Goo Dolls, and wears a rat suit for Gwess' own enjoyment.

Her third main outfit is the same as her usual appearance but with a blue-gray jacket that she wears over her neck with the words "G.D. St Jail" on the back.

In Operation Savage Garden (Head to the Courtyard!), Part 2 Jolyne wears a spacesuit made out of clouds created by Weather Report in order to resist the anti-gravity ability of Jumpin' Jack Flash.

In The Secret of Guard Westwood, Jolyne is shown with her muscles exposed as a result of Survivor's ability.

In Birth of the "Green", Jolyne gets infected with plants that are birthing the Green Baby and grows plant life all around her body.

In Yo-Yo Ma is Coming!, Jolyne and Anasui hide in some bushes from security guards, and Yo-Yo Ma camouflages them with dirt and leaves.

Also in the same episode, Jolyne gets damaged from Yo-Yo Ma's spit. Her tongue and cheek have holes in them and her eye melts until it no longer works.

In Jail House Lock Jolyne wears her final main outfit, which once again is very similar to her original outfit, but she now has two neon green belts that go around her waist and her lower breast, and she pierced her bellybutton.

In Heavy Weather, Part 3 while under the effects of the Heavy Weather ability, she appears to transform into a snail.

In C-Moon, Part 2, Jolyne uses her Stand to make a Mobius Strip in her body to prevent the anti-gravity from killing her.

In What a Wonderful World an alternate universe variant of Jolyne appears, who visually looks very similar to Prime Jolyne, but has an extra bun in her hair and slightly thinner eyes. She wears a similar outfit as well, but instead of a heart on her chest with a butterfly symbol, there is a spade with a hornet on it. She also has a hornet tattoo on her arm, replacing the butterfly tattoo from the original Jolyne.

In the same episode, a second alternate universe variant of Jolyne appears, named Irene, who looks almost identical to Prime Jolyne but wears an orange sweater with several hearts cut out of it.

Stone Free[]

Unlike most protagonists, Jolyne was not born with her Stand, yet she was born with the potential to awaken one. Knowing this, Jotaro sent her a shard of a Stand Arrow during her incarceration in Green Dolphin Street Prison that she pricks her finger on, awakening her own Stand.

Stone Free is a unique close-range Stand that can not only be summoned to fight, but also provides Jolyne with integrated abilities. Like her father's Star Platinum, Jolyne's Stone Free focuses on speed, precision and power, making it powerful in combat. Moreover, its string power gives it incredible versatility that allows Jolyne a wide array of actions.

  • String Decomposition: Her Stand allows her to unravel her body into string and is thus a long-distance Stand. The Stand is also physically powerful, as she is able to throw powerful punches at her opponents.
  • Stone Free's string manipulation makes it exceptionally versatile in battle. With the string, Jolyne is able to:
    • Eavesdrop on distant conversations in the form of sound vibrations through her string by the same principles behind the tin can telephoneW but also converse through them.
    • Slice people with the sharpness of the strings.
    • Pickpocket small objects.
    • Weave a tight net instantly strong enough to stop bullets to protect herself.
    • Create a large net to capture enemies.
    • Tie people up for various uses, mainly pulling them in range or choking them.
    • Stitch her wounds.
    • Deploy a "string barrier" to detect movements over a large area.
    • Create complex patterns to the point where Stone Free can make a portrait.
    • Swing from place to place.
    • Counteract C-Moon's ability to turn things inside-out, by meshing affected areas of her body into a Möbius strip.
