“What did you say? Depending on what you say next, I might have to kick your ass!”

— Joseph to a mobster

Joseph Joestar is the main protagonist of Battle Tendency, the deuteragonist of Stardust Crusaders, as well as a secondary character in Diamond is Unbreakable. He is the second protagonist of the series, and the second to take on the nickname "JoJo."

Joseph was born with the ability to use Hamon, which he inherited from his grandfather Jonathan and his mother Lisa Lisa, and uses these abilities in order to defeat the Pillar Men in 1938. He is trained by his coach Lisa Lisa, and together with Caesar Zeppeli, the three of them stop the Pillar Men from retrieving the Red Stone of Aja and becoming the Ultimate Life Forms.

50 years later he meets with Mohammad Avdol, and the two of them track down Joseph's grandson Jotaro, who also awakened a Stand. The three of them, also accompanied by Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and Iggy, travel the world in search of DIO to defeat him and end the curse he has placed on Joseph's daughter Holly.

Sometime during his travels he has an affair with a certain Tomoko Higashikata, who gives birth to his bastard son Josuke Higashikata. In 1999, when Josuke is 16, Joseph visits his hometown of Morioh Japan where him and his son discover an invisible baby, whom Joseph later adopts and names Shizuka Joestar.

Age[]

In Battle Tendency Joseph is 18 years old. In part 3 he is 69, and in part 4 he is 79.

Powers and Abilities[]

Hamon[]

Joseph was born with the ability to use Hamon, but was taught several techniques by his coach Lisa Lisa.

  • Overdrive- This sends Hamon through his body and can be absorbed through other objects.
  • Clacker Volley- Joseph's signature weapons, they are infused with Hamon, and Joseph throws them around to disorient and disarm his opponents.
Hermit Purple ico

Hermit Purple[]

Joseph developed a Stand through the blood connection he has with Jonathan's body, which DIO used and got a Stand with, causing a distress signal to be sent out to Jonathan's living relatives, giving most of them Stands.

  • Divination - Hermit Purple's main ability is to divine information. By using any object or material in conjunction with Hermit Purple, Joseph Joestar can display any information he wishes to see. To date, he has used Hermit Purple to:
    • Produce psychic photographs by destroying a camera. Once broken, the camera produces a photograph which reveals the information as it is in that moment of time, such as an image of a person in their current situation.
    • Produce live psychic videos on a television. It can either display multiple seemingly random TV channels in rapid succession to formulate a coherent sentence, or the television can show a place, even the most improbable ones such as the interior of Joseph's brain.
    • Analyze machinery to see if it has been tampered with in some way, as he did with Terence T. D'Arby's video game cartridges and console.
    • Draw a map in dust on an unpaved road, with and 'X' marking the location of a desired item.

Trivia[]

  • He is the last main protagonist to be referred to as "JoJo" for the entirety of the part he is in.
    • Jotaro is referred to as JoJo but only in the first ten or so episodes.
  • As of late, Araki has drawn Joseph wearing a pilots hat, in order to differentiate him from Jonathan, who he draws wearing a diamond patterned headband... It's ironic because Joseph is the one usually depicted with a headband.
