“Who the hell am I?”

— Josuke, JJL Chapter 17

Josuke Higashikata, born Yoshikage Kira and Josefumi Kujo is the protagonist of JoJolion, and eighth protagonist of the series. He is the first main protagonist in JoJo never to be referred to as JoJo.

Josuke was born from the fusion of Yoshikage Kira and Josefumi Kujo after the two of them were fatally injured and ate from the Locacaca Fruit and covered by the soil of the Wall Eyes. Josuke awakens in the Wall Eyes, naked with no memories, and meets Yasuho Hirose. The two of them set out to discover Josuke's true identity. He is adopted into the Higashikata family, who have mysteries of their own, and is dubbed Josuke Higashikata. Josuke, discovering his dual identity as Kira and Kujo, joins forces with Yasuho and Rai to thwart the Rock Humans' quest for the Locacaca fruit and uncover the truth about his mother's illness. Their pursuit leads them to confront the Rock Human leader, Toru, in a fateful battle where Rai and Josuke's sister, Kei Kira, perish. Josuke, unlocking a new Soft & Wet ability, defeats Toru and ultimately rejoins the Higashikata family in celebrating Norisuke's return from the hospital.

Josuke's two halves, Kira and Josefumi, both possessed their own Stands: Killer Queen and Soft & Wet respectively. After fusing together, they became one Soft & Wet, which encompasses the abilities of Josefumi's property stealing bubbles and Kira's explosive bombs. Later, Josuke understands the concepts of Spin, and is able to use a new ability: Soft & Wet: Go Beyond.

Physical Appearance[]

Josuke is young and physically fit. He is relatively skinny and wears a sailor outfit. His two eyes are split down the middle, appearing to have one half of both eyes be blue and the other purple.

After taking a sample from the Locacaca 6259 he grows three rocks on the side of his face, one that covered his left eye. One of the rock formations, the one directly covering his eye, is removed after the Rock Creature Obladi Oblada eats it off.

Design Variants[]

Before Part 8's release, Josuke was shown for the first time in the issue of Ultra Jump that Steel Ball Run concluded in. In this original appearance he appears to wear a different sort of hat, and has more pins on his outfit reminiscent of Jotaro and Josuke.

In Soft & Wet, Part 1 Josuke first wears a hospital gown before he finds Yoshikage Kira's sailor outfit.

In Soft & Wet, Part 4, Josuke is under the influence of Ojiro's Fun Fun Fun ability, which causes his blood to scab up into symbols on his hands and feet.

In Family Tree, Josuke shaves by first putting shaving cream over his chin.

In "Paisley Park" and "Born This Way", Part 5, Josuke and his Stand become frozen by Born This Way's freezing wind ability.

In Walking Heart, Josuke is melted to the ground by Tamaki Damo's Stand ability.

In Dolomite's Blue Lagoon, Part 5, Josuke gets possessed by the Stand Blue Hawaii.

In Ozon Baby's Pressure, Part 3 Josuke envelopes himself in a soap bubble to evade Poor Tom's Stand attack.

In The Wonder of You, Part 8, Josuke is bandaged up without his hat after getting damaged by calamitous rain.

In The Wonder of You, Part 9 Josuke gains the rock formations under his eyes and on his cheek and is shown ripping apart another hospital gown.

In The Wonder of You, Part 16, Josuke is afflicted with asbestos that grows around his face due to the attack of the Rock Animal, Do Do Do, De Da Da Da.

In Safety First Josuke is attacked by the Rock Animal Obladi Oblada and appears to be covered in a sort of rock formation.

Personality Traits[]

Josuke is brave and noble, and even though he has no memories from before he was born, he still has the same compassion as all of the Joestar's before him.

Soft & Wet[]

Josuke himself was born with the ability to use his Stand right away, however he inherited his Stand's form from one of his two halves, Josefumi Kujo. It's unknown how Josefumi awakened to his Stand, but he likely came in contact with the blessed land of the Wall Eyes at some point in his life.

Soft & Wet is a humanoid close-range Stand. It possesses enhanced strength, demonstrated first when it breaks a large portion of an apartment wall with a single back kick, and is also capable of extremely rapid hand-to-hand combat. The extent of the damage it can inflict is limited, however, as it is unable to break rocks.

  • Bubble Generation: Soft & Wet generates star-embedded floating bubbles, which must make contact with its target to work effectively. However, Josuke can control where the bubbles can fly, allowing him to send them where they are needed. The bubbles are actually comprised of tiny cords vibrating at extreme speeds, giving them the appearance of spheres.
  • Plunder Bubble: Soft & Wet's signature ability is to "steal something from [an object] and take it for itself", which works in conjunction with the bubbles. Josuke can thus steal aspects or properties of inanimate and living things. Said properties seem to also be smaller objects that come from a bigger object. Examples include:
    • Temperature: While battling beetles with Jobin, Josuke took some of the temperature from his brush and from Jobin to check the amount of heat by placing that temperature in a nearby thermometer.
    • A human's sight: After bursting near Joshu's eyes, Josuke's bubble completely blinds Joshu for a few seconds, making it appear that Joshu's eyes have popped.
    • The water contained in a human's body: With one bubble, Josuke covertly punctures several ~5mm holes in a woman's body in order to quickly drain her of water and provoke thirst.
    • Sound: Josuke steals the sound from a wall or a light switch, preventing any noise that would have been caused upon breaking it or turning it off.
    • His own facial hair: Josuke uses Soft & Wet while shaving his face when Hato and Joshu are in the bathroom as well. Soft & Wet's bubbles in the shaving foam pop onto Hato and Joshu's faces, planting Josuke's hair onto their faces instead.
    • A cat's fur: Seemingly without pain, Josuke removes the majority of a live cat's fur and relocates it, in the shape of a cat, in order to obscure the view of a security camera.
    • Friction: Josuke removes the friction from a floor, creating an ice-like slippery surface.
    • Smell: Josuke traps an odor and various into a bubble and has it attached to his foe Born This Way. When the bubble bursts, he can track down the Stand's user by smell and sound.
    • Small objects: Josuke when fighting the A. Phex Brothers filled his bubbles with screws and nuts to fire out upon bursting.
  • Bomb Bubble: As previously stated, after undergoing equivalent exchange with Yoshikage Kira, Soft & Wet's bubbles become a hybrid of its own bubbles and those of Killer Queen. These fused bubbles retain some aspects of Killer Queen's bubble-generation ability. These bubbles are able to pop with enough force to cause damage at close range, as seen when Josuke uses one to shatter Tamaki Damo's sunglasses. Josuke can also use this force to propel any small objects stored inside of his bubbles, seemingly with a degree of control over the direction they fly in. In addition to this, Josuke is able to injure opponents by popping bubbles which have been embedded under their skin, an ability that one of the A. Phex Brothers remarked bears a striking resemblance to the late Kira's own fighting style.

Soft & Wet: Go Beyond[]

Later in the story Josuke begins to understand that some of his soap bubbles are formed through "spinning lines" that are spinning so fast that they appear spherical. These bubbles are invisible to the naked eye, as they "do not exist in this world." Josuke is able to use Spin and merge it with these invisible bubbles to shoot them out his fingertips. These invisible bubbles are practically lethal, and can tear through any object and erode it on contact.

Because they do not exist in the same physical plain as everything else, they are also able to bypass Wonder of U's calamity ability.

Trivia[]

  • Other people refer to him as Jo2uke, Jo8uke, or Gappy (in reference to the gap in his teeth) to avoid confusion with the other Josuke.
  • Josuke gets his hat from a store called SbR in Morioh, which itself is a reference to the Steel Ball Run Race, but also inside the story hats from other popular JoJo characters can be found.
  • The rock formation around his eye might be a reference to Baoh's (a character from one of Araki's earlier works,) appearance, who has a similar formation around his left eye.
  • He is the only protagonist never to be referred to as "JoJo" in any media whatsoever.
