“Good grief...”

— Jotaro's catchphrase

Jotaro Kujo is the main protagonist of Stardust Crusaders, a major protagonist in Diamond is Unbreakable, a minor character in Golden Wind, and a key character in Stone Ocean. He is the third protagonist of the series, as well as the third to be referred to as JoJo.

Jotaro is half Japanese half British, being the son of Holy Kujo, a brit, and Sadao Kujo, a Japanese man. When he was 17 years old, he developed a Stand ability as a result of DIO awakening his own. Because of this curse DIO placed on his family, his mother Holy becomes ill, and Jotaro joins his grandfather Joseph Joestar, Mohammad Avdol, Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and Iggy in a quest across the globe in able to defeat DIO. Their mission is a success, and Jotaro's mother is saved.

10 years later, Jotaro meets with Josuke Higashikata, Joseph Joestar's bastard son, in order to inform him of a dark presence that makes its home in his small town of Morioh. Jotaro accompanies Josuke as well as his friends Okuyasu Nijimura, Koichi Hirose, and Rohan Kishibe in unlocking the mysteries of the town, and ultimately defeating the serial-killer Yoshikage Kira.

22 years later, in Stone Ocean, Jotaro's daughter Jolyne is put in jail for a crime she did not commit. Jotaro enters the prison in order to break her out, but he is ambushed by Enrico Pucci, who steals his memories and Stand, and sends him into a coma-like state. Eventually he is restored, and joins his daughter and her allies in an attempt to defeat Pucci, however he is ultimately killed in battle.

Following the universe being rebooted, Jotaro lives on in this new world, free from the influence of Pucci, now in a healthy relationship with his daughter Irene.

Jotaro wields the powerful Stand Star Platinum, which allows him to throw punches at incredible speeds, as well as being able to stop time momentarily.

Physical Appearance[]

In Part 3, Jotaro is a tall muscular 17-year-old boy. He wears his school clothes, blackish coat and pants, over a tight-fitting green shirt. He has a gold chain that hangs from his collar and wears two belts. He wears a black hat with gold highlights on it, and the hat seems to merge with his hair.

In his primary Part 4 appearance, he now wears a white coat and pants and white hat. The hat still merges from his hair and has several symbols on it with gold highlights. He now wears a black shirt underneath his coat with a purple strap going over it. He still wears two belts.

In Part 5, he wears a similar outfit that buttons in the middle. He wears a teal undershirt now with a similar hat.

In Part 6 he now wears a purple coat with gold highlights and snakeskin pants. The gold chain from his school outfit makes a return, and he wears a white undershirt with a green star in the center. His hat is now purple with a green star.

Design Variants[]

In A Man Possessed by an Evil Spirit, Young Jotaro appears in multiple older photos. One shows him as a young boy with a white shirt and suspenders, and the other shows him slightly older in a more traditional school uniform.

In The High Priestess, Part 2, Jotaro wears a scuba outfit.

In "Khnum" Oingo and "Tohth" Boingo, Jotaro is depicted in the strange art style of the book of Tohth.

In "Sethan" Alessi, Part 2, Jotaro is de-aged and appears as a young boy wearing his oversized uniform.

In D'Arby the Gamer, Jotaro's soul is afflicted by Telence's Stand Atum, and its hand wraps around his arm.

In Jotaro Kujo! Meets Josuke Higashikata he wears an outfit similar to his school uniform but in white with a purple undershirt.

In Let's Go Hunting! Jotaro wears another similar outfit, but with a gray jacket with orange decorations.

Also in Let's Go Hunting!, Jotaro's arm gets melted by the Stand ability of Bug-Eaten, Ratt.

In Birth of the "Green", when Jotaro is in a coma induced by Whitesnake, he wears white attire that allows him to be hooked up to machines keeping him alive. Key designs from his usual Part 6 outfit are repeated, including the star shape on his shoulders and his hat. He also wears a gold ring over his chest and all over his outfit there are tubes coming out of him.

In What a Wonderful World an doppelganger of Jotaro appears in a similar outfit to his usual Part 6 attire.

Stand[]

Star Platinum ico3

Star Platinum[]

Star Platinum is a close-range Stand with a range of two meters. Jotaro developed this Stand due to the psychic connection he has to Jonathan Joestar's body that gained a Stand while in use by DIO, and sent a distress signal out to Jonathan's living relatives, giving each of them Stands.

  • Super Strength: Star Platinum possesses immense strength, being able to throw a Jeep carrying four men and a girl out of the path of an 18-wheeler with one hand, later pulling the same Jeep out of a canyon with only a car as a counter-weight, and destroy large artificial diamonds within seconds.
  • Super Speed: Star Platinum boasts phenomenal speed. It was able to intercept a bullet fired from point-blank range, briefly contended with Silver Chariot (whilst it was using Anubis), and is stated to exceed the speed of light.
  • Self-Preservation: Star Platinum possesses the awareness and reaction speed to protect Jotaro in many instances that he himself seems unaware; halting a bullet he experimentally shoots at his own head; protecting him while frozen by DIO's Time Stop; reviving him from near-death by directly pumping his heart.
  • Precision: Star Platinum is incredibly precise; it can surgically remove an object embedded in a person's skull without ill effect, catch both a bullet and a minuscule Stand like Lovers between his thumb and forefinger in midair, and create a near photo-realistic drawing of a small Egyptian fly from a dark, blurry photo.
  • Enhanced Eyesight: Star Platinum utilizes eagle-like eyesight throughout Stardust Crusaders. Jotaro has used Star Platinum's eyes to see four kilometers across a desert, as well as identify meaningful details, such as a specific type of fly in high-resolution images. It can also follow a card shuffle performed by a professional gambler, subsequently recounting the entire new order of the deck.
  • Enhanced Breath: Star Platinum inhales with superhuman power, capable of sucking in the entire fog Stand Justice and holding it long enough for its user to suffocate.
  • Barrage of Strikes: Star Platinum's primary method of attack. It throws an extremely fast but precise barrage of powerful punches to pulverize an opponent or destroy objects.
  • Star Finger: Star Platinum can forcibly extend its middle and index fingers to a length of one or two meters, allowing it to perform sneak attacks and stab opponents from afar. The technique's frequency of usage decreased as the battles intensified.

Star Platinum: The World[]

At the end of Part 3, Jotaro realizes that Star Platinum and DIO's Stand, The World, are the same type of Stand, meaning that Star Platinum has the ability to temporarily stop time.

  • Time Stop: When activated, Star Platinum is able to halt the flow of time for a brief moment, causing everything around him to appear frozen in place. During this time-lapse, Jotaro is able to interact with any object or person within his range. Measures of time during Time Stop correspond to normal measures, as shown by Jotaro's unwilling reduction in the duration of Time Stop affected by Made in Heaven. He is unable to use the ability consecutively, requiring a few seconds in between each usage.
