“RAAHHHH time to die!!”

— Monster-Ock in Spider-Man 64

Monster-Ock is the name of the amalgamation of Spider-Man villains Doctor Octopus and the Carnage Symbiote.

Monster-Ock first appears as the final boss in Spider-Man released in the year 2000 for the PlayStation. In an alternate take on the game, which released in the form of Spider-Man on the Game Boy Color, also had him as the final boss. His third and final appearance is in the episode "The Symbiote Saga: Part 1" in the Ultimate Spider-Man TV show.

Appearance[]

In Spider-Man on the PlayStation, Monster-Ock takes the form of Doctor Octopus wearing the Carnage Symbiote. He has large white slits for eyes and is bigger and bulkier than the original Ock. He also retains Doc's robotic arms that he uses to chase Spidey on in the final boss battle. In the game menu he appears with goggles on.

In Spider-Man on the Game Boy Color, this version of Monster-Ock looks more similar to the classic Carnage design with a darker face and yellow eyes. He's a lot slimmer than his PlayStation counterpart, and retains the robotic arms from Doctor Octopus, and this time with red spikes at the end.

In Ultimate Spider-Man, the Carnage Symbiote possesses this version of Doc Ock who is a paraplegic that kind of looks like an insect. He is mostly red with black patterns all over him and a few mechanical tubes that connect to his robotic arms that are mostly black.

Alternate Appearances[]

Monster-Ock's first half, Doc Ock, appears in all three iterations. In the PlayStation 1 he wears a large green coat with leather gloves and goggles. He also has four mechanical arms.

In the Game Boy Color game he wears an outfit more similar to his comics appearance which is a skin tight green suit with orange highlights. He has a bowl cut and goggles and multiple mechanical arms.

In Ultimate Spider-Man he looks like a decrepit version of himself. He's got no hair, looks like a ballsack, has red eyes and no limbs. He has a Hydra logo on his chest and multiple mechanical arms connected to his mechanical body.

His Carnage appearance also differs between media. In the PlayStation 1 he is entirely red with multiple appendages coming from his back. He has many sharp white teeth and white slits for eyes. He is slim and walks on four limbs, and has sharp claws.

In the Game Boy Color appearance he looks almost identical to his comic appearance with black details throughout his body and large white eyes. He has multiple goopy arms coming off of him.

In Ultimate Spider-Man, Carnage's first appearance is just of a slim to average looking dude that's mostly red with black patterns all over him.

History[]

Spider-Man (PlayStation)[]

In Spider-Man on the PlayStation, Doctor Octopus is experimenting on symbiotes when he is ambushed by Spider-Man. He uses Venom's DNA to create the Carnage Symbiote, which attaches itself to Cletus Cassidy. After a brief battle with Spider-Man, the Symbiote leaves Cletus, and in a last ditch attempt at life, it attaches itself to Otto Octavius. Now Monster-Ock, it chases Spidey through the vents of the facility as it is in the process of exploding. At the end of the vents Ock gets caught in an explosion, and Otto's life is spared because of the Symbiote's attachment to him.

Spider-Man (Game Boy Color)[]

Similar to the last game, Doctor Octopus is experimenting on Symbiotes when he is ambushed by Spider-Man. Spidey battles both Otto and Carnage before the two of them combine to form Monster-Ock. The battle with the monster is a combination of the fights between Ock and Carnage. Once he's defeated, the Symbiote leaves Otto.

Ultimate Spider-Man[]

In "The Symbiote Saga: Part 1" of the Ultimate Spider-Man series, Doctor Octopus works for H.Y.D.R.A. and is working with Michael Morbious. The two of them are using Symbiotes and animal DNA in their experiments, but they are ambushed by Spider-Man and Agent Venom. A fight ensues, and Otto gets angry and Morbious and thrusts a vile of bat DNA at him. In retaliation, Morbious throws a vile of Symbiote at him. The Symbiote in the vile was the spawn of the sample he took from Venom earlier, which fuses with Otto to form Monster-Ock. After a brief battle with Spider-Man and Agent Venom, Spidey figures out how to use ultra sonic waves to remove the Symbiote from Doctor Ock. When the two of them are separated Doc is unconscious, but Carnage is born.
