“I plan on defeating your boss and taking over this city. In order to get rid of gangsters that sell drugs to children, I'm going to have become a gangster myself.”

— Giorno, Episode 2: "Bucciarati is Coming"

Part 5 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, subtitled Vento Aureo (alternatively Golden Wind,) is preceded by Diamond is Unbreakable and followed by Stone Ocean. Giorno Giovanna is the JoJo for this part, and Diavolo is the main antagonist. La Squadra Esecuzioni and Unità Speciale are this part's villainous factions.

This part introduces one son of DIO as the main protagonist, and also delves deeper into the lore and true purpose of the Stand Arrows featured in the previous part.

Originally published under the title Le Bizzarre Avventure di GioGio V: Giorno Giovana - Golden Heritage, the manga was serialized from 1995 to 1999 in Weekly Shonen Jump. It was later renamed to its current title in JOJO A-GO!GO! in 2000, and is alternately spelled in English and Italian across different media.

An action-adventure video game adaptation of Part 5 for the PS2 was released in 2002 titled GioGio's Bizarre Adventure. It was originally set to release in the US in October 2002 but was cancelled and never released outside of Japan.

Vento Aureo was adapted into a TV anime as the fourth season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The Animation in 2018. It was renamed Golden Wind. The English dub premiered a year later on Toonami in 2019.

The Part 5 manga officially released in English from 2021 to 2023. It was also titled Golden Wind, after the anime release.

Official Description[]

VIZ Media[]

In raw, soul-stirringly picturesque Napoli, vigilance is a prized virtue—especially for local teen Giorno Giovanna. The Southern Italian crime syndicate is all-powerful, and Giorno is not about to let his city and its impressionable youth sink even further into the shadowy world of mafia drugs and crime. Luckily for Giorno, the like-minded mafioso Bruno Bucciarati is willing to help him in his struggle to become Primo Mafioso and overtake the Passione famiglia. But first, he has to survive initiation.

Summary[]

The fifth part, set in 2001 in Italy, follows DIO's son Giorno as he dismantles the Italian mob from the inside. Giorno is blessed with the good fortune and chivalry of a Joestar, technically being a descendant of Jonathan due to DIO inhabiting his body, as well as blessed with a Stand ability. Giorno joins Bruno Bucciarati, Guido Mista, Leone Abbachio, and the other members of Passione, attempting to take down the mob's illusive boss: Diavolo. The plot goes much deeper, as the lore behind the Stand Arrows is revealed, and the secrets that the Arrow's possess are finally brought out. The part ends with Giorno using the arrow to transform his Stand into Gold Experience Requiem, and defeating Diavolo once and for all, taking his place as the leader of Passione.

Spin-Offs[]

GioGio's Bizarre Adventure II: Golden Heart, Golden Ring (2001)
A light-novel written by Miya Shotaro in 2001 set in the middle of Vento Aureo. It features a new character, Coniglio, and centers around her illness curing Stand, The Cure. Two new Stands are introduced, which include Public Image Limited and Joy Division. The novel attempts to explain what would have happened if Fugo returned in the middle of the part, therefore contradicts the events of the following novel, Purple Haze Feedback. Like many of the other novels it features original artwork by Araki throughout. It is non-canon and features an original story that takes place right after The Mystery of King Crimson arc from the manga.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Pinball (2002)
An Adobe Flash game that was playable on the official JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean website that was able to be played after clicking on a graphic of the Stand Manhatten Transfer a certain number of times. Once you click it, it "transfers" you to where you can play the pinball game. It is a rudimentary pinball game and is simply JoJo themed, without any particular difference to the normal game. It is themed after Part 5 and uses Araki's art of Vento Aureo characters over it. As of now the game is no longer able to be played, as the website was never archived.
Purple Haze Feedback (2011)
Another light-novel, this one is a sequel to Part 5 written by Kohei Kadono in 2011. It is also known as Shameless Purple Haze in Japan. It tells the story of Pannacotta Fugo after he leaves Bucciarati's gang and how he is inducted back into the group again. Its antagonistic force is the previously unseen drug trading group of Passione. There are several new Stand battles in this light novel and reveal hidden lore unknown from previous parts. Its main antagonist, Massimo Volpe, is revealed to be the brother of Tonio Trussardi. His Stand, Manic Depression, is the reverse of Pearl Jam, as it gives diseases as opposed to healing ailments. At the end of the novel, Fugo's Stand evolves into Purple Haze Distortion in order to combat the main antagonist. It is also the only piece of media where Giorno is officially referred to as "GioGio."
Le Bizzarre Avventure di GioGio: I Testamenti Cremisi (2022 - 2025)
In English, "The Crimson Testament," is a collection of short stories written by various authors about the members of La Squadra Essecuzioni from Passione. It includes the stories "Testimone di Gangster" (2022) by Keiji Ando, "There's No Love Like a Parents" (2023) by Ballad Kitaguni, "My Prized Hook and Line" (2024) by Yoshihito Okita, "The Stray Cat Leaves with the Spring breeze" by Ballad Kitaguni, and "Risotto Nero Observes" by Ayato Toya. It also includes two new original stories that were not originally in an edition of JOJO magazine, stories that follow Sorbet & Gelato and Carne. It is set for release in July 2025.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Hymn (2026)
Golden Hymn is cancelled online mobile game that was announced on Christmas 2020. The game will feature characters from the first five parts. It was supposed to be released worldwide, but development was halted before it was ultimately cancelled.

It is being reworked into another online mobile game that is set for release in 2026.

Attractions[]

Escape From JOJO's Bizarre Museum (2020)
An escape room attraction based on the anime adaptation of Golden Wind set up in over 30 Japanese cities. The story follows Team Bucciarati as they find themselves inside a room of the mysterious Trappola Museum. They have been trapped their by a man named Scatola, who also took their Stands away. Participants had 60 minutes to figure out a way to free their Stands and defeat Scatola's Stand, The Shelter. The game required participants to solve the mystery as Giorno and the others escape - It was a game playable by up to six participants, and it is the third escape room attraction inspired by JoJo's Bizarre Aventure.

Creation & Development[]

Golden Wind's title was added later into the series' run. Araki based the name off of the image of the wind and the "refreshing" feeling Giorno gives off. It also continues the trend of naming the part after the protagonist's Stand.

Araki originally intended for the protagonist to be a woman but was strongly urged by the editorial department to make it a man. Araki submitted, but the idea for a female protagonist would be carried over into the next part with Jolyne Cujoh. Araki joked that perhaps he could have revealed during Golden Wind that Giorno had been a woman all along. A leftover from this idea was the fact that Giorno's Stand gives life, as do women.[1]

Also considered for Giorno's character was to make him possibly allergic to sunlight, due to being the son of a vampire.[2]

Iconography[]

UNR-40
VA Bunko bw

By far the most prominent imagery used in Part 5 iconography is Giorno's iconic ladybug emblem. It is used in almost any piece of promotional material for Part 5 you can find, most notably in the official anime logo, the Bunkoban edition logo, Shueisha Jump Remix's logo, the video game adaptation logo, VIZ Media's official English logo, and anime posters.

The Stand Arrow is also very prominent in Part 5 imagery, also appearing in the official anime logo, and being chased after in the second OP for the anime adaptation, "Traitor's Requiem".

Common color schemes used to represent Golden Wind are gold (most likely because it is the namesake of the part,) and pink. Gold is used to represent the part possibly to match the Stand Arrow's color scheme, and is used on the covers of VIZ Media's English publication of Part 5. The official anime logo uses pink as its primary color, possibly to match with Giorno's color palette in the anime, which is pink. This wiki uses a gold/pink color scheme for these reasons.

Trivia[]

  • While the part was being published in Weekly Shonen Jump, the usual English JoJo's Bizarre Adventure title was altered to say Le Bizarre Avventure di GioGio.
    • Episode titles, the names of the soundtrack, and other songs are written in Italian.
      • The anime also makes use of Italian in all forms of text throughout the part.
  • Part 5 is highly inspired by The Godfather movies.
    • Golden Wind ends with Giorno becoming the leader of Passione getting his hand kissed by his capos, this directly mirrors the end of The Godfather, when Michael Corleone becomes the head of the mob, and his hand is kissed in a similar fashion.
  • In the next issue notice before its serialization, Josuke is shown pointing at someone unknown asking "Who are you?!", likely pointing to Giorno. This is ironic because the two characters never actually meet in the story.
    • In this same notice, Part 5 is referred to as the Italy Arc.
  • While writing Vento Aureo, Araki had listened to rap as a means to develop the "hoodlum" atmosphere of the part and its gangster protagonists. He gives Snoop Dogg's album "Doggystyle" as an example, mentioning it as particularly "scary".
  • This is the final part to use roman numerals in the main title while being released in the magazine.

Continuity[]

  • The origins of the Stand Arrow are revealed in this part. It is revealed that 50,000 years ago, a meteorite fell onto the earth that contained a virus, that when inflicted on a living being, grants it the power of a Stand. The meteorite was taken and carved into several arrows, which were eventually discovered by a young Diavolo who is the very person that sold them to Enya the Hag, who eventually used them to stab DIO and create their army of Stand Users. Diavolo kept one of those arrows for himself which he used on himself and later gave to Polpo to use to recruit members of the gang.
    • The true power of the Stand Arrow is also revealed in this part, where if an Arrow pierces a Stand, it will evolve into a Requiem Stand. The first Requiem Stand shown off is of Silver Chariot, a Stand that first appeared during Part 3.
    • It is commonly mistaken that the Stand Arrow in this part (stylized with a beetle emblem) is unique from the ones introduced in the previous part. This is incorrect, as there is no in-universe or outside source that claims that this is true.
  • Giorno Giovanna, the main protagonist of this part, is the son of DIO. Because he was born from the blood and body of Jonathan Joestar, he too has the Joestar Birthmark and has qualities of a Joestar himself.
    • In Giorno's wallet he keeps a photo of his father. It's unknown how he came to receive this photo.
  • Jotaro and Koichi return briefly in this part after last appearing in Part 4. Jotaro sends Koichi to Italy in order to find more information about Giorno. Koichi mentions that he speaks such fluent Italian now because Rohan, another character from Part 4, taught him how to speak it using his Stand Heaven's Door.
  • Later in the part, Jean Pierre Polnareff returns after last having appeared in Part 3. It is revealed that since Part 3, he and Jotaro have been searching the globe for the Stand Arrows. Jotaro went to Japan while Polnareff tried searching in Italy. There, he discovered Passione and Diavolo, and came to face off against him where he was almost mortally wounded in combat. In his battle with Diavolo and King Crimson, his legs and arms were severed and he lost his right eye.
  • Pannacotta Fugo leaves the group halfway through the part. It was originally intended for him to betray the gang, but Araki was depressed at the time and thought it was too dark writing friends fight against each other, so Fugo became detached from the story.
  • Although they do not appear in this part physically, Joseph and Josuke are mentioned by Koichi, who says that Giorno embodies the properties of the Joestar family, which he has seen before in Joseph, Jotaro, and Josuke.
  • In the episode Joining the Gang, the map of Passione's members and capos is shown and seems to depict Cannolo Murolo among the other capos. Murolo is the capo of the data analysis team, and a primary ally in the Purple Haze Feedback novel. The anime retroactively adds his likeness to the list of capos.
