Lloyd: Am I really gonna have to fight my father one day?

Wu: One day. But today we can feel good that Ninjago is saved, for tomorrow you will train for the day. Good will finally face evil and a final outcome will be decided for all of time.”

— Lloyd and Wu after the Great Devourer's defeat, "Day of the Great Devourer"

Rise of the Snakes is the first season and the second installment of the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu series. It was originally released on December 2nd, 2011. The Green Ninja is the mascot character for this season and Pythor is the main antagonist. The Serpentine serve as the villainous faction.

It is the second installment in the Prophecy of the Green Ninja arc. It introduces Lloyd, Lord Garmadon's son, to the team, and reveals his destiny as the legendary Green Ninja, who is prophesized to defeat the Dark Lord in battle. The collectible weapons this season are the Serpentine's Staffs and the Four Silver Fangblades.

In May 2012, Season 1 was adapted into two books that retold the story of two episodes, Rise of the Snakes, and Home. They are both written by Tracey West.

It is preceded by the Pilot Episodes and followed by Legacy of the Green Ninja.

  • Cole is revealed to once be a dancer. His father, Lou, is a member of the Royal Blacksmiths, a quartet. He was originally supposed to be a dancer but quit when his father was too overbearing.

  • The Great Devourer is introduced in this season, and it is later revealed that her offspring are their own tribe of Serpentine known as the Vermillion. It is also later revealed during Crystalized that the Overlord was the one who corrupted the snake giving it its evil venom that turned Lord Garmadon into the King of the Underworld.
