Toru is the leader of the Locacaca Orginization and the main antagonist of JoJolion. He is the seventh antagonist of the series.
He is a Rock Human who was born some in recent history. Through unknown means he became the leader of the Locacaca Organization and sought after the effects of the mysterious Locacaca fruit in the town of Morioh. He took on the identity of Satoru Akefu, the retired Head Doctor of T.G. University Hospital. He reassumed the position of Head Doctor and hired other Rock Humans to research the Locacaca.
Toru himself acts as an intern at the hospital and was Yasuho Hirose's ex-boyfriend. At some point he is discovered by Yasuho, Josuke Higashikata, and Rai Mamezuku, and he races the three of them for the New Locacaca fruit. During the final confrontation for the New Locacaca, Toru faces off with the entire Higashikata family, but is caught off guard by Kaato Higashikata's Stand, which she uses to manipulate the calamity into exchanging her grandson Tsurugi's disease for Toru. Toru turns to dust as the disease takes him over, and he finally disappears.
He is a Stand user, wielding the calamity inducing Stand, Wonder of U.
Physical Appearance[]
Toru is a young man of average height that has dark blue hair that looks like a large bean with swirls on it. He wears a purple vest over a lighter purple shirt, and on both shoulders he has a teddy bear on them. On his right pocket side there is a large yellow "S" with a sun behind it. He has neon green pants with a floral pattern on it, and bright blue shoes.

In The Wonder of You, Part 16 Toru's birth is shown. He is basically naked and has some rock particles on him.
In The Wonder of You, Part 19 Toru appears in a flashback meeting Yasuho for the first time when she was 9 years old. He is wearing a blue hoodie to hide his appearance.
In Doctor Wu and Awaking 3 Leaves, Part 3 in his first appearance he wears his usual outfit under a white doctor's jacket. In his first appearance his hair was also more fluffy and shorter than it is later in the part.
In When All Curses Are Broken Toru is infected with the Higashikata Rock Disease and his skin is infected and his veins pop out.
In Go Beyond, Part 2, Toru dies and crumbles to dust.

History[]
Early History[]
Toru was born the same as other rock humans, birthed from a Rock Female and raised until the age of 17 by a hive of hornets. One day, at an unknown time period, Toru emerged from the ground among his Rock Human brethren and walked towards a small town.
At an unknown point in time, Toru became interested in the Locacaca fruit, and began growing it in the holy land in Morioh along what would become the Wall Eyes faults. He placed the Rock Organism, Radio Gaga there, to guard the land where he was growing the fruit.
For the next few decades Toru's history is unknown. Presumably, he kept an eye on Morioh and continued his research into the Locacaca fruit, also probably growing his league of Rock Human affiliates.
Contemporary History[]
In 2001, Toru became interested in assimilating into TG University Hospital to continue his research and development. He somehow came into the knowledge that Yasuho Hirose's Stand had the power to track people on the internet and came into contact with her as a 10-year-old girl. He befriended her at a summer camp and got her to find him a suitable candidate to steal the identity of- one Satoru Akefu, 79-year-old former head doctor of TG University Hospital. Toru uses this information to steal his identity and turn his Stand, Wonder of U, into him.
Sometime afterward, Toru infiltrated the hospital along with Poor Tom, Wu Tomoki, and Ryo Shimosato. Their research got them to developing the Locacaca 6251, but it is unknown for how long and when development started. When Holy Joestar-Kira started research as well, Toru and the doctors began experiment on her, leading to her developing a brain-deteriorating illness.
After this Toru would eventually re-meet Yasuho in high school and begin to date her, also pursuing other means of making a profit by pitching his inventions to companies like Apple, but instead got rejected.
Conflict with the Higashikatas[]
At some point, it became known to Toru that Josuke Higashikata was born and had created the New Locacaca fruit. He sent his subordinates from the hospital after him and Jobin Higashikata to retrieve it but ultimately failed. He had Poor Tom killed after he "successfully" retrieved the branch, and lured Josuke, Yasuho, and Rai Mamezuku to the hospital.
The trio arrived, searching for the elusive Head Doctor, and Toru made his presence known by chatting with Yasuho and catching up after all the lost time.
Personality[]
Toru is very ambitious, as he himself wants to rule the medical world with the marvels of the Locacaca fruit and has even made an invention that he wanted to send to Apple, but it was rejected. He is cunning and sly, and it seems that his relationships are mostly fueled by an ulterior motive, as he followed Yasuho throughout her life and caused calamities around her.

Wonder of U[]
It is unknown how or when Toru awakened to his Stand, however it is known that all Rock Humans possess one, likely due to the fact that they have a connection to "blessings of the earth," locations like the Devil's Palms and Wall Eyes, which are locations that grant Stand abilities.
With Toru's Stand Wonder of U, he is able to protect himself from attackers by sending "calamities" in their direction. If someone even has the intent to pursue him or the Head Doctor, they will be met with danger. The more they want to pursue them, the more dangerous the thing gets sent their way. The Stand is also capable of merging between a human form and a Stand form, and it appears that those who know its true identity are able to see the Stand form and those who are unaware (or are non-Stand Users) only see him as the Head Doctor. He is able to be countered with Josuke's invisible bubble ability, Go Beyond.
- Calamity: Wonder of U's main ability revolves around the concept of 'Calamity', bringing impending doom to anyone pursuing Toru or Akefu (the Stand's 'human' form). The pursuit does not have to be in the form of a direct chase, as even the intention, will, or desire to pursue Wonder of U in the future will cause the Stand to activate. The intent to pursue seems to need to be more than just coincidental, however, as Akefu had to coax a declaration of intention out of a reporter who threatened to expose him. Only when the reporter's intention was clearly stated to be in pursuit of Akefu and the Locacaca was Wonder of U able to kill the reporter with a calamity. This is in contrast to the crowd of hundreds of people who came to the hospital with the specific intention of listening to a presentation given by Akefu, none of whom were affected by a calamity.
- Posthumous Activation: It is revealed in JoJolion Chapter 108 that even after Toru's death, Wonder of U can still function due to the fact that it represents, and is made from the idea of the Calamity itself, with Yasuho even theorizing that it was born from some type of "calamity energy".
- Human Disguise: Wonder of U is able to disguise itself into Satoru Akefu and can also undo it anytime. This ability allows Toru to freely use the hospital as a secret lab for Locacaca research.
- Teleportation: The Stand can also teleport at will, as it completely disappeared when being pursued by Rai. Later on, it was able to instantly shift places between TG University Hospital and the Higashikata House. In addition to its ability to teleport directly between locations at a distance, Wonder of U can also move rapidly within a smaller area by gliding along and within flat, reflective surfaces. It is also possible that the Stand aparating in front of its next victim is the indication that an attack is about to begin, as Rai and Josuke saw Wonder of U in the back seat of their car the moment before they were struck by calamitous rain.

It is unknown how old Toru really is, but he appears to be around 19 years old, the same age as Yasuho. He appears during the flashback portion of the final episode in the year 1941, which would make him at the very least around 90 years old.

- Toru appears to mirror Diavolo/Doppio from Vento Aureo, as both are the leaders of their own respective crime organization who keep their identity secret by hiding behind a faux leader of their group (Doppio/Akefu.)
- In JoJolion Chapter 97, Toru can be seen listening to The Wonder of You by Elvis Presley on his MP3 player. This makes Toru the first Stand user to listen to his Stand's namesake in-universe.
- The teddy bears on his arms and his nature as the main antagonist of JoJolion may refer to the phrase kuma taiji, or "bear conquest", meaning both bear hunting and demonic exorcism in Northern Japan.
- "Toru" means "take" in Japanese. This is in line with the character's selfishness and lust for power.
