— Tusk

Tusk is the Stand of Johnny Joestar featured in Steel Ball Run and JoJolion.

Tusk is unique in that it works in tandem with the power of Spin, letting Johnny shoot nail bullets from his fingertips to deal maximum damage. Through several points in the story, Tusk evolves into three other forms known as "ACTs," similar to Koichi Hirose's Echoes.

Physical Appearance[]

ACT1[]

ACT1 looks like a stuffed animal of sorts. Whatever sort of animal it is I have literally no idea. Anyway it's pink, has some big 'ol ears, and a pointy nose. And a star on his forehead. When Araki drew this mf he designed him to be the mascot of Part 7.

ACT2[]

ACT2 looks more mechanical like some sort of bug robot thing. It's still pink and has these weird antenna with big blue balls on the end. Its weird ass robo arms look like they shoot things and it has this tail/sac sort of thing hanging off it's butt.

ACT3[]

ACT3 is more humanoid now but he's still fucking freaky. He has this long ass head with a spike in the middle-- he's still pink by the way. He is sort of hunched over a big and he's got these tiny ass arms and legs with three sharp claws on each. He's got a blue belly and these balls with stars on them on his shoulders.

ACT4[]

ACT4 is a fucking beast. He is still pink. He is humanoid again, and looks almost like a skinny dude wearing this hulking suit of armor but the bottom half is like tassels or beads or something. He's got blue gloves and blue boots and he has a horseshoe on his forehead. His eyes are little tiny pin holes inside of a star.

Design Variants[]

In Ball Breaker, Part 4 an alternate universe variant of ACT2 appears as the Stand of an alternate Johnny.

In High Voltage, Part 4, Tusk ACT4 is blown up like a bubble by The World.

In World of Stars and Stripes, Tusk ACT2 is ripped apart by the force of ACT4's infinite rotation that was bounced back onto Johnny.

Also in World of Stars and Stripes, Tusk ACT4 slithers on the ground towards its target and it becomes flattened.

In that same chapter, Tusk wraps around The World's leg.

Powers and Abilities[]

Spinning Nails[]

Tusk is along range Stand.

After Gyro teaches Johnny the basics of Spin, Johnny unlocks his Stand, Tusk, after having stepped through the Devil's Palm. Tusk evolves three times, and has four forms- each with a new ability.

  • ACT1; Spinning Nails: Johnny is able to make his fingernails, and later toenails, spin themselves at a high velocity and shoot them like bullets up to 10 meters. The nails have immense cutting power, capable of slicing through rock, cutting limbs clean off, or carving a tree into a humanoid shape in a matter of seconds. However, they do not possess the power to cut through metal. Once Johnny shoots a fingernail, they take a short time to grow back.
  • ACT2; Golden Rectangle Nails: When Johnny activates Tusk, the fingernails now rotate around his fingers like axes. Thus, when he shoots the fingernails, they possess a drilling property, which dramatically increases the power of the shots. For instance, one shot is able to blast away a large zone on impact. On the downside, the nails regrow considerably slower, and as such, Johnny must save his nails or he will find himself out of ammunition.
  • ACT3; Spatial Wormhole: The hole created by the nail shot, specifically the infinitely small rotating point at the end of the hole, becomes a special space which, due to the infinite proportion of Johnny's spin, is also infinite and becomes a wormhole through space. A tailpiece theorizes the space as a boundary between dimensions. Johnny alone can enter that "location" and anything other than him will be cut. This ability is limited by how long the holes can persist in the world. ACT4- Allows Johnny to shoot Golden Spin fingernail bullets that are imbued with infinite rotation. This infinite rotation can counteract any ability.
  • ACT4; Infinite Rotation: Following the principle of the Golden Spin, the energy wielded and embodied by Tusk ACT4 is infinite, allowing a wide array of otherwise impossible feats. One of the first abilities displayed by Tusk ACT4 is to be able to break through the dimensional barrier of Love Train and enter the space in which Valentine hides. Moreover, Tusk ACT4 defies the laws of gravity and therefore can move slightly and probably still influence Diego during the stopped time. The damage caused by the rotation is stated to be probably infinite as well. Like with ACT2 and ACT3, the energy of the Spin can persist inside objects even if Johnny misses a nail shot, and can be redirected toward a target.

Trivia[]

  • This Stand follows along with a naming-scheme that the next JoJo's Stands all follow, that being being named after a material. In this case, it's bone.
  • Araki designed Tusk ACT1 with it being the mascot for Steel Ball Run in mind.
  • Johnny can use his Spin-imbued nails to grate cheese, wind spaghetti, and brush his teeth akin to a electric toothbrush.
  • In the song "Tusk" by Fleetwood Mac, if you have a keen ear, you can hear someone in the background say "How are the tenders, Johnny?" right before the beat begins (the timestamp is 14 seconds in). It's possible this is where Araki got the name for Johnny Joestar.
  • An alternate universe version of Johnny is seen with the Stand Tusk ACT2, implying that it's possible that Tusk has always been Johnny's Stand, regardless of him gaining the power through the Holy Corpse. Considering that ACT1 was originally the guardian of the left arm, and the Holy Corpse doesn't exist in alternate universes, that may mean that ACT2 is the true form of Tusk as Johnny's true Stand.
