“I am Vishnu... I exist to spread mercy like the sun far and wide. My avatar, let us depart together...”
Vishnu is the King of Personas, and a demon in the Shin Megami Tensei series. He is the mascot Persona of Megami Ibunroku Persona and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona.
Vishnu is the highest-leveled Persona of the Emperor Arcana, at level 86. Obtaining Vishnu requires fusing the Spell Cards of Gandharva and Yaksini with the Avatar Totem, which is received after obtaining all 142 Spell Cards.
It is the final evolved form of Seimen-Kongou, who evolves into Amon Ra, and then Vishnu.
Physical Appearance[]
In Persona and the Persona 2 duology, Kazuma Kaneko's design motif for Vishnu in this particular game is the "King of Persona-users" due to his numerous avatars. Vishnu's bust still retains traditional Hindu symbols, but he wears upper hose which were popular in England as formal garment through the 17th century and can be seen in many English kings' portraits.
In MIP, Vishnu's spellcard shows him in his signature pose, which he makes on the boxarts of all Persona 1 games.
In the Persona 2 duology he stands upright and has more gold patterns for his adornments than in the previous game.
Design Variants[]
Vishnu in most other Persona games appears as a tall, regal humanoid figure with light blue skin, adorned with golden jewelry and a crown. He holds symbolic items like a conch shell, chakra, lotus flower, and mace.
In Persona 2, Vishnu appears on the avatar spellcard.
Starting in Persona 3, Vishnu takes on his traditional SMT appearance, but like most other Personas in this game, he is given a faded gray hue.
In Persona 4 he retains the same appearance except without the faded gray.
In Persona 5 and Persona 5 Strikers, Vishnu is shown off in a full 3D model.
In-Video Game Appearances[]
In Megami Tensei II, Vishnu appears as a warrior with tan skin and a helmet with blue clothes and armor.
Vishnu first appears in Shin Megami Tensei more accurate to his Indian mythos form, he is a mostly nude man with white cloth surrounding him.
In Shin Megami Tensei V, Vishnu appears in his usual design with purple skin and green hair.
Vishnu also appears as a summonable demon in Metaphor Re: Fantazio by the Devil Summoner Archetype in battle. He uses his Persona 5 model in this game.

Powers and Abilities[]
Vishnu has a wide range of abilities in every Persona game he appears in. Unlike some other Personas used by protagonists, Vishnu doesn't have one specific attribute associated with him. He has a special ability, Ohm, which inflicts 999 damage to all enemies.
Mythological Origins[]
Vishnu is one of the primary deities in the Hindu pantheon. His epithet is "The Preserver" and is known for a kindly demeanor and interest in the welfare of humanity. In the Hindu religion, Vishnu is one of the three principle deities of the Trimurti along with Brahma, the Creator, and Shiva, the Destroyer. As the preserver, Vishnu maintains balance within the world and reincarnates into multiple avatars as needed. It is believed that he will appear as his final avatar Kalki and usher in a new age. After this, the universe will end and creation will start anew. He is depicted with up to four arms, blue skin, holding a chakra wheel, a lotus flower, a mace and a conch, and rides on the back of the bird Garuda. He also sleeps on the back of the great Naga named Ananta Shesha.

- Vishnu is the second most powerful Persona of the Sun Arcana, next to Asura. With the addition of weapon fusion in FES, he can be fused with any kind of Nihil weapon to obtain Sarnga, Vishnu's bow.
- Vishnu is the penultimate Persona of the Fool Arcana and can only be obtained through fusion in the Velvet Room after the Fool Arcana Confidant has been completed. This requires that the protagonist be completely on the path to the True Ending, and can only be fused in the Qliphoth World on a first playthrough.
